A Memory of Stars

This piece is made from plane tree burl and finished with ebony stain.

The movement in the wood reminded me of Van Gogh’s Starry Night — not as a copy, but as a feeling. During my university years, I was deeply drawn to that painting. I had its poster and used to look at it almost every day.

Years later, in another country, this piece unexpectedly took me back to those memories. There is something strange and beautiful about making an object that suddenly carries you back to another time in your life.

The wood itself was exceptionally beautiful, and the process of making this piece was deeply enjoyable.
